TCO Fly Tying Class: Tying Deer Hair Streamers with John Parisi

Deer hair is hollow, so a spun and trimmed head pushes a big profile and a real wake without loading up the hook the way marabou or synthetics do. Shaped properly it displaces water on the strip and breathes on the pause. A fly that looks alive doing almost nothing. Spinning and stacking deer hair is its own skill, distinct from wrapping feathers or dubbing bodies, and it's the gateway to muddlers, divers, sculpins, and jig streamers alike. 

Come join TCO's own John Parisi, an Umpqua signature fly tyer and we'll build that skill on the Mini Dungeon, Kelly Galloup's compact jig-style streamer. A pattern that's as deadly on trout and bass as it is fun to tie. 

• All tying materials will be provided for students to use but bring your favorite vise and tools.   

• We will explore a variety of the materials that we stock in our fly shop, so that you become familiar with how they are used.

• The class will include tips and tricks that will make the fly-tying process more enjoyable.

• You will leave the class equipped with the skills needed to expand the craft.
