The Grannom Caddis Lifecycle - aka Mother's Day Caddis
One of the earliest and most important hatches of the Pennsylvania spring season, the Grannom Caddis kicks off each April in impressive numbers on limestone and freestone streams across the state and trout are ready for it. If you're not, you're missing one of the best opportunities of the entire year.
What makes the Grannom unique is that trout key in on every stage of its lifecycle - the rising pupa, the emerging adult, the egg-laying female dancing on the surface, and the spent caddis trapped in the film. Knowing which stage the fish are focused on at any given moment is the difference between a slow afternoon and the best day of your spring season.
In this class you will tie patterns that cover the full Grannom lifecycle from subsurface pupa to adult dry to the distinctive green egg bearing female. We'll discuss materials, hook selection, and presentation so you not only leave with flies that work, but with the knowledge to understand why they work and when to use each one.
- Materials provided but bring your tools and vise.
