Tulpehocken Creek Outfitters first opened its doors on December 5th, 1990 by Tony Gehman in Reading, (West Lawn) Pennsylvania. The fly shop was built on a passion for the sport of fly-fishing and the local tailwater and namesake of the company, the Tulpehocken Creek. As the business grew, the company became known as TCO Fly Shop. Over the past 30 years, multiple stores were added. TCO Fly Shop now conducts business through 4 locations in Pennsylvania and worldwide through a website that has been growing since the early days of the internet. Throughout 30 years of change, a few things have remained untouched. The vision that Tony had in 1990 has remained untarnished. That vision was to create a fly shop that had the best customer experience coupled with the most knowledgeable team around. A store that was welcoming to the beginner as it was to the advanced angler. As TCO continues to grow, you can count on the fact that we will always give everything we have to you, the customer and that fly fishing will always be our passion. Thank you for 30 grateful years.
"I am Grateful for all the love and support of our amazing staff and clients over the last 30 years... and look forward to many more" - Tony Gehman, President & Founder of TCO Fly Shop
*Stay tuned for in-store events and celebrations when things are back to normal... hopefully Spring/Summer 21!
TCO Timeline
December 5th 1990 TCO opened in West Lawn (Reading) PA. The 1,000 sq. ft. store was located in the first floor of a house and contained just about everything you could get in the fly fishing world at that time. |
October 1997 TCO expanded to include the building next door. The store was enlarged to 3,000 sq ft. and featured 2 levels. This is also the year that the internet started! We used the 2nd floor for order management and fulfillment for online orders. |
September 2005 TCO purchased Eylers Fly Shop in Bryn Mawr, PA. Eylers was the first Orvis dealer in PA and one of the oldest fly shops around. This store was renovated from the "old time" fly shop to a 1,500 sq. ft. retail space with plenty of room for fly tying and apparel. |
April 2007 TCO opened in State College, PA with an outpost store on the banks of Spruce Creek. The Spruce Creek store was then merged into the main store still located in State College. |
March 2016 TCO opened in the town of Boiling Springs, PA. This 4,000 sq. ft. store sits on the banks of Children's Lake and the Appalachian Trail passes through the property. This store is fully stocked with everything you need for fly fishing as well as hiking the AT. |
April 2019 TCO partnered with Orvis for their first ever "Store within a store" concept. TCO occupies half of the Orvis Company store located in Haverford, PA. This unique store concept features all the products you would expect from Orvis, as well as some curated top brands from the fly fishing industry. |
