Brood XIV

Every 17 years various regions across the United States get to experience a true wonder of nature. Periodical cicadas, similar to the annual cicadas that provide the soundtrack to your summer, emerge by the billions during this special event. This summer plague like numbers of these insects will emerge across much of Pennsylvania as Brood XIV makes its arrival known. Experts are expecting this to be one of the largest periodical cicada emergences of the next decade plus across the entire nation. The trees and forests surrounding many of your favorite fisheries will soon be inundated with these noisy critters and nearly every species of fish and wildlife in the area will be gorging themselves on these tasty morsels. Unlike Brood X of a few years ago, Brood XIV’s emergence area encompasses many of Central Pennsylvania’s world class trout fisheries, but everything from smallmouth bass, carp, birds, deer, and yes, even people will be feeding on these things. The fishing during the last Brood XIV emergence was nothing short of spectacular and I often fondly think of the insanity I witnessed last time. All five TCO locations are fully stocked and loaded with some of our favorite cicada patterns that will have you covered regardless of your targeted species. 17 years is a long time to wait until next time, so be sure to stop by and get ready for this marvel of the natural world. If you play your cards right, you just may end up with some of the best fishing of your life!
