TCO Fly Tying Class: Introduction to Fly Tying 5 Part Series - TCO Boiling Springs

This introductory course is best for those who are novice or have never tied flies before, that want to invest in an extensive introductory experience. 

This class will consist of 5 separate 2 hour sessions held weekly.

Participation will be limited to the first 6 students. This will be strictly followed to maintain a small group setting so that each student will get an increased level of attention during instruction.

Students will learn 2 new patterns a night that are handpicked to help develop the fundamental skills and techniques necessary to tie most common patterns. This course is designed as a launch pad for those serious about growing their skills and knowledge related to fly tying and will greatly cut the learning curve of tying flies. 

Materials for each pattern will be provided. Students do not need to have all of their own tools, but are encouraged to bring what they have. Students will be able to tie and keep as many of each pattern as they can in the allotted time, allowing for repetition and not just one attempt at a given pattern. Though it is definitely not necessary, students who are willing to practice patterns between sessions throughout the week at home will get the most out of the course. Participants will also receive various handouts and fly pattern recipes for the patterns learned in the course to supplement the instruction provided. The goal of the course is that when completed, students will have the ability to tie basic patterns for themselves to use in their own fishing and have the skills necessary to pursue any area of fly tying that interests them going forward. 

About the Instructor: Frank Landis is TCO Employee in Boiling Springs and Guide for Relentless fly fishing. He specializes in fishing the Cumberland Valley as well as the limestone streams of the State College area. Frank also spends time every summer traveling the country to target trout throughout the Rockies in addition to the east coast.
