Fishing Report :

Stream: Fishing Creek

Water Conditions:

Date of Update: 9/3/2010

Author: TCO State College Staff

Highlight: Fishing Creek is flowing at normal summmer time flow

Stream Level: normal summer time flow

Clarity: clear

There are no in-stream gauges to provide flow rates. Our stream condition updates are provided by employees where possible or come from local guides and customer reports.

Fishing Overview: There are still a few Light Cahills, and tan caddis on the water. Summer blue quills are present. A few midges and crane flies may be found. Dry fly fishing has been slow. Nymphing has produced the most fish.

Specifics and Tips: The best dry fly action has occured right at dark or early in the morning.

Hatches: Slate Drakes, Tan Caddis, Summer Blue Quills, Light Cahills, Terrestrials

Hot Patterns: Tan Caddis (14-16) Nymphs are a good place to start along with #14-16 tan and olive bird of prey caddis. Also, make sure to fish a soft hackle or emerging style pattern (mayfly or caddis) within your nymphing setup. Pheasant tails and Zebra midges, etc. are also good choices. It's a good time to blind cast Catskill style or parachute slate drake patterns. Dry/dropper techniques with an attractor dry fly and green weenie have been productive.

Other Information: Having trouble fooling those trout on your flies?... click here! Spending a day with any of our accomplished guides will get you back on track and landing fish in no time!

Store Events: GUIDED 3 HOUR SUMMER TRICO TRIP PRICES(ONE OR TWO ANGLERS)
Once again, TCO State College is excited to offer our very popular Summer Trico Trips. Last year, our Trico Trips were conducted in 2 hours sessions. But because of angler demand and the opportunity for great fishing, we’ve expanded our trips to 3 hours this season. Any fly angler who appreciates fly fishing history or dry fly fishing with small flies and light tippets will love these trips!
Guide Rates: Public Water $200.00 | Private Water $300.00
*Drinks are included but flies and terminal tackle are not.

Conservation Note: ANGLERS VISITING OUR AREA: Specifically those of you who just fished the Delaware River (or other streams in the NY Catskill Region) or Maryland's Gunpowder River, Please clean your boots and waders with a diluted bleach solution OR hot water(must be over 140 degrees f) and laundry detergent - It must soak for at least 30 minutes to be effective. DIDYMO has been identified in these watersheds. Another option is to purchase a second pair of boots and waders to wear only in infected waters. It's the only sure way not to spread DIDYMO. Please be responsible - Don't spread DIDYMO TO Central Pennsylvania!

Click here to learn more about DIDYMO. This is a real threat to the quality of our fly fishing!

General: Remember that fishing is closed in the Cabin Water on Sundays. Call or stop by our State College location for more information on access, hatches, etc.
Check out our Fly Tying and Fly Fishing Educational Programs - Fly Tying Classes or Fly Fishing Schools.

Be sure to stop in the store next time you visit the area... we will be happy to share our favorite fly patterns with you.
