BIO-
As an angler since a young age, Jim’s
first real experience with a fly rod was
on a trip to Colorado where things all started
to fall into place. Since then, he has been
passionate about spending as much time as
possible on the water, pursuing a variety
of fish species. Jim has been fortunate
to learn from some of the best anglers the
eastern U.S. has to offer and now devotes
time to passing that knowledge along. For
the past 13 years or so, Jim has spent most
of his freshwater fly fishing time in Pennsylvania,
New York and Maryland with yearly trips
to Montana and Wyoming. Locally, he spends
countless hours on streams including Valley,
French, Brandywine, Pickering, Ridley, Perkiomen
and Tulpehocken Creeks where he enjoys sharing
his passion with others. Not as often as
he would like to, Jim works on his saltwater
game in the mid-Atlantic and has enjoyed
a number of trips to Andros Island in the
Bahamas. Jim has been a member of the TCO
team since 2008 spending most of his time
guiding but you will occasionally see him
behind the counter in our Bryn Mawr shop. |

QUESTIONS
WITH JIM
1) When and why did you start
fly fishing?
The first time I fished with a fly rod was
in the early 90’s. As a life-long
angler I was attracted to the connection
between the fish and the fisherman through
the fly rod. Fly fishing just differs so
greatly from conventional fishing.
2) What is your favorite
type of fly fishing? (ie fresh, salt,
nymph, dry etc…)
Freshwater dry/dropper is what I spend
most of my time doing but there is no
substitute for dry fly action.
3) What are your favorite
waters to fish?
Locally I fish Valley Creek quite a bit
and within a day’s travel I would
say the Catskills. For my long distance
freshwater I would have to say Montana
and finally I truly love Bonefishing in
Andros.
4) When you’re not
fishing, what are you doing? Past times,
Hobbies etc…
I spend a lot of time paddling a kayak
and sometime mountain biking. The fall
season is spent archery hunting and preparing
for winter snowboarding.
5)
What are your plans for the future within
TCO, what projects are you working on
and when can we expect to see them come
to fruition?
I will continue guiding and instructing
as much as possible and I hope to get
some shop time in as well. I also have
plans to assist in crafting a message
to anglers explaining how to properly
clean your gear so not to transport didymo
and other contaminants from stream to
stream. |
