QUESTIONS
WITH CHRIS
What is the most challenging
part of being the buyer for TCO?
I would say the hardest
part is keeping on the sharp edge of what’s
hot in the industry each year and trying
to be sure that we represent it in the
stores. It’s difficult because I
have to work with the TCO guys as well
to be sure that it’s all quality
product that the team likes too. As the
buyer you can’t just buy the next
best thing, you need to be able to see
through the shimmer and forecast what
will have some industry longevity. To
all of that add in trying to guess how
many of every item we will sell a year
in advance.
We all have favorite places to fish, where
is yours?
It’s probably not hard to tell by
looking at my images and reading my writing.
I have been spending the last 5 years
or so in the tropics almost exclusively
chasing all of the shallow water species.
It’s not just the fishing that I
like there it’s the whole thing.
I love the heat, the food, the music;
it’s all for me. So really I would
always choose a salt water environment
in which to spend my time.
What makes TCO different
than the average fly shop?
I think it’s the level of customer
service and neatness that we have cultivated.
When you go into one of our stores you
are being assisted by someone who truly
lives the sport and are known throughout
the industry. I mean to go into the State
College store and have Paul Weamer and
George Daniel help you is amazing! As
for the atmosphere, we really focus on
a neat, clean and organized store that
is easy to shop and enjoy.
When your not fishing, what
are you doing?
I am an avid cyclist and I ride almost
every day, sometimes to work. Riding is
my getaway and helps me to clear my head
from a long day. I really like to go out
on long rides on my own, this is where
I can get some good thinking done. I am
also really into cars and spend a decent
amount of time creeping around the local
car dealers looking at the new offerings
and reading car mags.
Where
can we hear more from you about all of
this?
You can catch me on our Twitter page www.twitter.com/tcoflyfishing
or hit me up at chris@tcoflyfishing.com
I usually will write about new stuff for
our online magazine or just on the site
in general.
