Midges

Midges (Diptera) are aquatic insects related to mosquitos and are usually very small. The midge lifeccyle begins as a Larva stage and appear as slender, segmented, worm-like bodies. This is followed by the Pupa, stage. Emerger and stillborn midge patterns are important during most midge hatches. The Adults are distinguished by small bodies and very long legs.

Birchells Hatching Midge	$2.25

A beautiful little emerging midge with a parachute, so you can see it amid the others. Often a midge hatch can be a prolific to the point when it's difficult to determine your fly from the rest on the water. This midge fly pattern can solve the problem. Also, in size 18, it can work for a small mayfly emerger as well.

Griffiths Gnat	$2.00

The Griffith's Gnat imitates a lot of different insects. Created by George Griffith, one of the founders of Trout Unlimited, it's a buggy dry fly and can be fished a number of different ways. It looks like a tiny woolly bugger with no tail and has the same effect on fish. One of the best all-around Midge flies to have in your box. Tip: Fish this midge dry fly behind a larger dry.
