Stonefly - Dry Flies

Stoneflies (Plecoptera) are generally very large and require very pure water. The lifecycle begins with the Nymph stage, similar to the Mayfly. However, most Stoneflies crawl onto the shoreline to hatch as an Adult. After mating, the Stoneflies return to the surface as Spinners.

Big Sky Salmon Fly	$2.50

When salmonflies or big stoneflies are on the water, this high-riding pattern will draw big trout to the surface.

Bugmeister	$2.25

These big stoneflies crawl out of the water and up into the trees and because of their size are very visible. Fishing this pattern under the trees when they are present and the wind is blowing can produce some great days on the river.

Gibbs Golden Stone	$2.50

Golden Stones (Perlidae) are the most common type of large stoneflies and big trout love them. This fly pattern is a big buggy stone that works well when the adults are in the vegetation near the stream. On windy days these flies can be blown into the water. Fish this trout fly near a cut bank or sweeper downstream from some overhanging vegetation, or on a particularly windy day when the stones are out.
