$345 ( 2 full days)
Our most popular offering, this two-day clinic combines the fundamental of fly fishing with practical experience. It is tailored for the person who wants an in-depth introduction to the sport. The first day of the class covers basic casting mechanics as well as the tackle and knots used in the sport. Time will be spent in our classroom and on the lake just outside as you master the skills, with the help of video analysis, to develop a cast that is efficient, effective and repeatable. We will also begin a discussion on fly design and how it relates to what fish eat.

The second day will be spent primarily on the stream. You will be introduced to riparian ecology, fly selection (matching the hatch), reading water, moving water casts, presentation casts, line management and aquatic entomology. Later in the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to catch your first fish on a fly as you are guided by your instructors. You will leave this class with a foundation of skills and knowledge that will allow you to enjoy fly fishing and continue learning on your own.

Fly fishing has been a passion of mine since the age of 9, where a guided trip in Colorado was all it took for me to get hooked on the sport. Following that experience, fly fishing became a pursuit unlike any other. Growing up, I honed my fly fishing skills on the ‘not so famous’ trout streams of New Jersey and spent summers fishing the beautiful waters of Colorado, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. While I love all forms of fly fishing, I enjoy salt water fishing the best. For me there is nothing better than fishing for stripers and blues down at the shore where I grew up. I have been fortunate enough to turn my hobby into my career, and I have been working in the industry for over 5 years, first with Orvis and now proudly with TCO. My passion for the sport carries into my joy of teaching the technical aspects, and providing others with the skills necessary to improve their overall fishing experience. Whether it’s fly tying, rod building, casting classes, or even entomology, I look forward to sharing my passion and experience with others and helping to create great memories along the way.

Fly fishing is not just a hobby for me, it's a passion. I come from a family where hunting and fishing is a way of life. At a very early age, my grandfather taught me all his secrets of fly fishing on the small streams around the PA Grand Canyon. He instilled in me the passion of being on the water, something that has stayed with me my entire life. My father also taught me to respect and appreciate the outdoors and to pass down these same qualities to my two daughters. Our family trips to the mountains often involve contests for who caught the first fish, the biggest fish, and the most fish. On my perfect weekend, you can find me hiking the small back wood streams in Tioga County with my wife, only carrying with us a backpack, two short 3 weights, and a few cold IPAs. When I am not on the small streams in PA, I love traveling out west for wild browns and cutties in the rivers of Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming. This is truly a passion for me, and turning this passion into a job with TCO is an amazing opportunity.
