Latest Fishing Report
:

Stream: Spring Creek

Water Conditions: Excellent, but higher than its average

Date of Update: 5/11/2008

Author: TCO State College Staff

Highlight: Spring's current flow @ the Axemann guage is 149 cfs. Average flow for today is 102 cfs.

General Update: The creek is still higher than its average, and dropping slowly. The clarity is good with just a hint of color. Some tan caddis are hatching and bringing trout to the surface in slower pools and eddies. Some Sulphurs are hatching...they aren't heavy, just yet, but a few have been eating them.

Specifics and Tips: Streamers and larger nymphs are going to be your best bet in the higher water. Also, it's good time to start working the subsurface with your favorite Sulphur nymph. San Juan worms, scuds, cress bugs, large pheasant tails/ Hares Ears, Walt's worms, are all good nymph options. Black and olive streamers have also been effective. Bird of prey caddis and Green Weenies are also cathing a few fish. A tan X-Caddis has worked very well for the rising trout...look for the fish to eat on the surface in eddies and slower pools, and be ready with some sulphur dries too.

Other Information: Stop by to see us in our new State College location and we'll help you with flies, gear, latest fishing reports and suggested stretches to maximize your trip to Spring Creek!
