Penns Creek at Penns Creek, PA: Penns Creek - Flow

Latest Fishing Report
:

Stream: Penns Creek

Water Conditions: Higher than average. Slightly tinted with color

Date of Update: 5/11/2008

Author: TCO State College Staff

Highlight: The current flow @ the gauge in the town of Penns Creek is 646 cfs. Average for today is 442 cfs. Penns continues to drop slowly. The creek is higher than most waders would like it to be. But it is fishable in spots.

General Update: Penns is currently flowing above it's average do to recent rainfall. But the stream is fairly clear, mostly a limestone green color. Streamers and large nymphs will be your best bet throughtout the day. March Browns and their spinners have produced some good topwater action late in the evenning...despite the high water. Please wade carefully.

Specifics and Tips: Fish large nymph patterns (#8-12), beadhead Hare's Ears, and stoneflies through heavy riffles. Black and olive streamers fished with a sinking line have also been effective. Cast these to the shore and retrieve them. Make sure to have a few March Brown emergers and spinners and tan/olive x-caddis.

Other Information: Call or stop by either the State College or Spruce Creek stores for up to the minute updates and all of the flies and gear you need to make your trip to Penns Creek a success. Remeber, Penns remains closed above Coburn, until opening day).
