Penns Creek at Penns Creek, PA: Penns Creek - Flow

Latest Fishing Report
:

Stream: Penns Creek

Water Conditions: still dropping and still a little high

Date of Update: 2/8/2010

Author: TCO State College Staff

Highlight: The current flow @ the Penn's Creek gauge is 588. Average for today is 350 cfs.

NOTE: Though the spawn is over, please respect the resource and fish away from any spawning beds. Trout eggs will not hatch for as long as two months after spwaning occurs. It it vital that anglers refrain from walking through empty redds. They look like brightly colored depressions and mounds of gravel. Anglers can crush the trout eggs by walking through the redds, greatly diminishing future generations of trout.

General Update: A few midges have been hatching but surface activity has been very slow in the cold water conditions.

ANGLERS VISITING OUR AREA.........SPECIFICALLLY THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE JUST FISHED THE DELAWARE RIVER (OR OTHER STREAMS IN NY'S CATSKILL REGION) OR MARYLAND'S GUNPOWDER, PLEASE CLEAN YOUR BOOTS AND WADER WITH A DILUTED BLEACH SOLUTION, OR HOT WATER (OVER 140 DEGREES f) AND LAUNDRY DETERGENT--IT MUST SOAK FOR AT LEAST A HALF HOUR. DIDYMO HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED IN THESE WATERSHEDS. Or even better yet, get a second pair of boots and waders to wear only in infected waters. It's the only sure way not to spread Didymo. .............BE RESPONSIBLE-DONT SPREAD DIDYMO TO Central PA!!
Click here to learn more about DIDYMO. This is a real threat to all of us!

Specifics and Tips: Pheasant tails, Hares Ears, Green Weenies (12), stonefly nymphs, and streamers have been catching a few fish.

As always, we would like to stress carefully reviving and releasing all fish caught. Please practice and advocate catch and release in all streams that can support year round fishing, especially those precious streams that contain wild trout.
