Highlight:
You know summer is officially in the ADKs when you see Hex flies on the old Grand Union
(vacnt store in Crestview plaza- Lake Placid) So time to dodge thunderstorms and wake boarders and get into some of those rainbows.......for those of you w/out power boats- the DEC opens the gate on the peninsula trail to the outlet- a nice place to paddle around, and quite fishy...........I catch more trout on the nymph pattern, and more of those pesky rock bass on the ever tempting dry.
|
General Update:
Look for ponds to start slowing down w/ the heat.......good time to hit some tribs for wildguys! get your small stick and wet wade a jewel. I hit one the other day and was surprised by a 13" brown among the 6" brookies- what a beauty- hook jaw and everything- he took a dry caddis imitation......we've got an Fseries Scott 3 wt in the shop that is sweet. it's Fiberglass and is the perfect tool for small streams. hey how 'bout bass fishing on the fly? Bill Stahl has a choice boat just waiting for you- give us a call and book Bill before he escapes to Montauk........( the lucky dog.....)

Specifics and Tips:
Try and learn a few different ways to nymph..a good angler is a versatile angler. so if you only high stick, try indicator fishing (and try using a fly as your indicator) if you only use an indicator try high stick, or a czech approach......most importantly, if your'e one of those anglers who prays for the hit on your swing- try dead drifting..please! I promise you'll catch more fish.

Other Information:
I should'nt have to say anymore about spreading invasives.......perhaps you saw in the NY Times about the Esopus River now having Didymo..............CLEAN YOUR GEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spey Nation was the bomb!!!! talk about some serious line throwin maniacs. Some amazing talent there, and watching a good spey caster is hypnotic.......gosh darn, they make it look so easy. Did you know that spey casts can all be done on your single hand rod, and are VERY effective in the proper circumstance... Then theres the gear- you think trout lines are confusing? the spey line deal is wild, but I am now starting to understand it.....whew, good thing i went to Yale, all those grain weights. OK heres the best part..... I bought some raffle tickets to support the cause, and I won big, no, huge, no MEGA.........I won a spring steelhead trip to the Skeena Watershed in BC- yup, I said BC. It's at Boundary Spey Lodge, and boy am I stoked.....I think I'll start tying flies tomorrow.
